Here are some simplified formulas I(anlin, bbe) came up with for calculating various parameters of your throw based on a video.
fps = framerate(use the 30fps formula when in doubt).
A list of common framerates:
30fps - NTSC camcorder
25fps - PAL camcorder
15fps - cell phone
Rev rate using the white tape method (result in RPM):
30fps, exact:
(Hours of rotation during 10 frames) * 15
(Hours of rotation during 10 frames) * fps
-------------------------------------------
2
Average ball speed:
frames = how many frames it takes for the ball to reach the headpin after release
30fps, result in mph +-0.01**:
1227
------
frames
Other fps, result in mph, +-0.1**:
41*fps
------
frames
Other fps, result in kph, +-0.15**:
66*fps
------
frames
*(Countries that use the metric system have an range of framerates that vary too much from camcorder to camcorder to use a generic (fixed fps) formula that is possible with NTSC-countries.**) Within a range of 5-50kph or 2-30mph
